Gleaming Light
What is that entity we call the moon…?
For centuries humanity has worshipped and venerated it ever so.
Glamorous to the eyes, warming to the heart,
So far away, yet so close to our souls and thoughts…
Four quarters and a revolution away,
Nigh the end of the darkest corners of our imaginations,
It has always been there to guide us through the darkest of days,
From the Ancient Greeks who dubbed her Selene,
To the Romans who called her Luna,
She was venerated as a Goddess,
Who watched over the children of earth.
Though oblivious to the people of old,
She has been the governing force behind
The ever so mysterious tides of the sea,
But for every one thing more we know of her,
There are a plenty more we do not.
Only time can explain this ever so mysterious entity,.
Maybe a million million years from now,
We may be able to explain her existence,
Or… Maybe we shall never know.

I am very impressed with this poem. So clear and concise about the moon. If I were to write, I would just be able to write maybe one sentence. “The moon is round and pretty” or something weak like that. I also want to say that I am quite happy to have learned so much about the Moon. I didn’t know the Greeks called the moon Selene…

Wonderful poem. I’m not so creative when it comes to writing poetry, but I do enjoy reading. With all of the amazing technology we have today it’s pertty amazing how little we really know about the moon and our surronding planents.

Great poem. I love it a lot. Personally I am not good at poetry, so I admire all people who can write good poems. This poem has deep meaning. It reminds me of both mythology and astronomy classes in which I have taken at the University.
